Date with the Judge
A Few Firsts, Iron Sheets and Jubilee!
"In this Year of Jubilee, each of you shall return to his possession. And if you sell anything to your neighbor or buy from your neighbor's hand, you shall not oppress one another . . .
"If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you. Take no usury or interest from him; but fear your God, that your brother may live with you. You shall not lend him your money for usury, nor lend him your food at a profit. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.
"And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor, and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave. As a hired servant and a sojourner he shall be with you, and shall serve you until the Year of Jubilee. And then he shall depart from you — he and his children with him — and shall return to his own family. He shall return to the possession of his fathers." (Leviticus 25:8-14, 35-41)

good news, bad news and a confession
appointment with the Judge here in Fort Portal regarding legal
guardianship of Kym and Lydia. I have been getting the run around from
the lawyer. Well the following day I saw him pulling out of the
parking of a favorite eating establishment called Gardens Restaurant.
I reminded him, "Please will you check on our date to see the judge?"
The next afternoon he called me and told me the 26th October is our
date to sit before the Judge.
This week I also went to the Police and asked for a copy of the Fire
report on the house. While giving my own statement and talking with
the two Policemen one of them informed me that it is illegal to try
and collect the pension for a deceased Army man. I was intending to do
this for Kym and Lydia, however I found out it is a criminal offense .
They will have to pursue this pension for their late father when they
are 18 years of age on their own. I'll trust God to provide for their
education.
I am also happy to say that work on the house continues slowly by
slowly. The only way in Africa. Reminded by Dr Scott, "TIA! Don't be
surprised by set backs." A saying we always exclaimed when things
never progress or move according to reasonable timing, "This is Africa!"
So here's my confession: I was feeling confident that I'd found iron
roofing sheets at a lower price than what I had been told by my roofer
Michael's seller. I moved confidently ahead based on the assurance of
the hardware store owner that he could get my iron sheets here to Fort
Portal two days after the order was placed. I agreed and had him order
the iron sheets then paid several million shillings cash to him on
Monday and Tuesday fully expecting the iron sheets to be here by mid
week or at the latest by Friday. When I called and politely asked when
the iron sheets would arrive he gave me a long story about how they
would not get here until next Wednesday. Basically he lied to me to
get my business. Now it's raining everyday, we had had two glorious
weeks of sunshine while the guys chipped the plaster off the walls and
Michael built the trusses. And thanks to my arrogance and not trusting
the local guys to help me make decisions the house is sitting in the
rain with no roof and the brick walls are soaking up huge pools of
water in all the rooms. Water has soaked up the walls to nearly a foot
and a half. And i am sick to my stomach every time the rains pour from
the sky. Please, will you pray that God will send us more sunny days
until the roof goes up.
And pray that i don't lose my temper with this shop owner. I believe I can
certainly forgive my hardware store owner friend but I will not shop
at his store again.
I hear the rain even now, sigh. Perhaps I have
ruined what little was still in tact of the fire damaged Busoro house.
